One of these days I'll upgrade my PJ but I tell you what, that HD78 still looks damn good. This is more or less the brains of the live TV outfit, and also serves as my media PC when we watch stuff upstairs in the theater (I rip all my BD and old HDDVD/DVDs to disk, and watch them off the PC). Output: Optoma HD78+DC3 DLP 720p projector, 110' Carada brilliant white 16x9 screen, Onkyo 7.1 HD receiver. Each box caps off a Dish Network HD receiver (a 622, from when I used their DVR), and a 211 Solo (preferred, due to lower power usage/size). (2) Hauppauge HDPVR capture boxes, both connected to the Capture PC. Antec 430 case, Gigabyte 780g motherboard, dual core AMD, low power AMD 4550 video.

Here's a shot of my upstairs rack - excuse the wires, I just redid one of the HDPVR's the other day and haven't bothered to re-run the cables yet:Ĭapture/Media room Media center PC, upstairs. Plenty for now, but I'm a sucker for not recompressing my BD/HDDVD rips so I don't see that space lasting. Overall I've got about 7.5tb of shared disk storage. Right now I use a ReadyNas NV+ I've had for 2-3 years, (4) 1.5tb drives, plus a mirrored pair of 1.5tb drives in my capture box. Storage: I haven't yet gone all fancy-pants like some people here with giant RAID arrays and the like - though I probably will at some point. When you get right down to it, going to the trouble to pull a bunch of (relatively) cheap Ethernet cable wins every time. Wireless just doesn't cut it for serious HD, and I never found a good powerline/coax adapter setup. I did this after the fact (not during construction) and it was no fun at all, but utterly worth it in the end. Network: (2) Cat-6e cables run to each room with a TV from the main media room.
